Saying No to Parents with Alyssa

Being able to set boundaries with your parents is a hurdle for most people. Whether it is the holidays, traveling, bed time routines, etc. it can get tricky to set hard boundaries with your parents. We discuss how saying the boundary aloud is more of a suggestion than a boundary. You have to make that next step to enforce the boundary before it is truly considered a boundary.

There are multiple types of boundaries to be set with others and our guest, Alyssa, had to set the ultimate boundary, which was disinviting her mom from her wedding and not having a relationship with her afterwards. Unfortunately, not everyone is given healthy relationships with their family members and it is okay but it is hard to do and deal with.

We would love to hear how you, as an adult, have been able to set boundaries with your parents - how it went - and how it is going.

In continuation with our Women's Health mini series, Courtney joins us to discuss her battle with CRPS. CRPS stands for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and it is a neurological disease. Between 5-8 million people suffer from CRPS and there is no modern medicine to combat this. It is known as the suicide disease because of the prevalence of people committing suicide due to the pain. Luckily, Courtney was able to find some relief through a more holistic approach at the Spero Clinic in Arkansas. Listen to hear what her journey looked like, when it started, and where she is today!

Women's Health Mini Series:

When it comes to women's health, women are overall truly dismissed. 1 out of every 2 women have reported their pain being dismissed by doctors. Women are expected to go through procedures such as IUD insertion without being medicated. Women are dismissed easily when it comes to weight gain, irregular periods, mysterious pain... and a ton of it is chocked up to our age and hormone changes. Yes, our hormone levels fluctuate throughout the month based on simple things like our cycles, however, there is more to it than that. Most of the time, there are underlying issues to why we are in pain... to why we are having irregular periods... to why we are gaining weight. We must stop the cycle of being dismissed as a whole. As Michelle says, "The only way we are going to do that is by making noise".

Michelle's autoimmune diseases sound dreadful. I can't believe one person can go through so much. 15 million people suffer from autoimmune diseases. I know every person goes with their own stuff in their own way. I just couldn't imagine dealing with this on a daily basis with children, caretaking for a parent, and a full time job.

Listen and learn from Michelle!
