We are losing sight of the simplicity of the gospel message, and weve got to get back to the basics. In this episode, Jackie and Preston discuss why it is that we dont focus enough on Jesus redemptive work on the cross. Our sin is a big reason. We forget about Gods wrath and why we need to be saved in the first place. We get caught up in a works-based idea of sanctification. The truth of the gospel becomes uninteresting as we seek greater understanding or deeper knowledge. We can also go through the spiritual disciplines like time in the Word or prayer without truly abiding in Christ. All of these scenarios overcomplicate our view of the cross, and its time we talk about it.

In 1 Corinthians, Paul says, “Act like men, be strong.” But what does manhood look like?
In this episode, Preston explores some of his earliest views of masculinity as a kid and what it meant to “be a man.” The development of our identity is shaped by both parents in unique ways, so the Perrys talk about the dynamics of being nurtured – or not – by a mother and a father. They also discuss the modeling of emotional maturity, the idea of attachment theory, healthy relationships with other men, and opportunities for discipleship.

It’s been a minute since the Perrys dedicated an episode to the topic of prayer, and they realize they pray differently today than they did back then. Just as sanctification changes who you are, it also changes your prayer life, so what do their prayers look like now?
Jackie and Preston also take a look at several examples of prayer in the Bible. Scripture shows us how we can approach God when we think He is disciplining us or when we doubt He is for us. Prayer grounds us as Christians, reminding us that we can’t lean on our own understanding. Through both prayer and fasting, God wants us to quiet our souls so we become more dependent on Him.

The Perrys are back after many months away spent tending to their souls and their family. The time offline was good and at times “profoundly boring,” but as they re-engage with social media, they’ve got some thoughts.
The Perrys discuss what scripture has to say about our character, and how Christians ought to be on social media because of what the Bible says. How we show up on social media matters, and we should honor Christ while we’re there.
Scripture references:
Ephesians 5:15-17
Matthew 6:25-34
Philippians 4:11-13
Philippians 2:3
Philippians 4:5
James 1:19-20
Matthew 7:3-5
Proverbs 4:23
